Shakespeare in Rome

Imperdibile! …more

Cycles

There is a collective exhibition of photos on at the moment in Rome which is worth a visit if you happen to be in Italy’s capital city. The exhibition was inaugurated on the 26th of June  and will remain until the 31st of July. Entitled “Cicli” Cycles  it showcases the work of 5 artists; Maria Cristina Argento, Angela Caparelli, Davide D’Ambrosio, Antonello Dell’Armi e Ludovica Gasparini who, by the way do not like being defined as “artists” as they find this term stiff and rigid. The idea behind “Cicli” came about almost by fun, the title embodies the complete versatility of choice each artist has in interpreting the meaning of “Cycles” From the interpretation of Cycles as a means of transport, to migratory cycles of birds, to the cycle of life to the controversial idea of  re-cycling which dominates the news each day,  you can see each participants viewpoint at the headquarters of the Cultural Association  “Ciclonauti” in via Baccina 37 who have  kindly donated the space for the show .

Writers Portraits

If you’re brave enough to challenge these days’ hot temperatures by taking a stroll in the centre, I suggest you to pop along Via San Martino ai Monti (not far from the Cavour metro station) and stop by Agave bookbar, here you can enjoy the photos of twelve young women, writers and poetesses, portrayed by Sveva Bellucci.

I started my artistic path by following a sharp direction for a long time now, that is facing everyday life – says Sveva - I took the cue from this theme to portray twelve women, young writers and poetesses. Starting from the place they chose to write, from their habits, from their personal belongings, therefore from their daily context I tried to bring to light what the reader is not allowed to see, what is hidden behind words. …more

The Big Bang in Rome

Posted by Derek - 27.06.2008 09h41m in arts & webarts | No Comments

Planets, galaxies, the relation between Science and Art, Universe and Human Mind. These are some of the complex themes on show in the exhibition “The Big Bang” at the Museo Carlo Bilotti in Rome from June 26th until October 19th. Organized by the Municipality of Rome together with the cultural association Zètema, the event wants to unveil the symbolic and personal relation of each artist with the Cosmos and the concept of the indefinite that the Universe represents.
Starting with the works by 4 American artists that have never shown in Rome before, James Turrell, Robert Longo, Ross Bleckner and Peter Halley, the exhibition goes on with the Italians Alberto Di Fabio, Domenico Bianchi and Mario Dellavedova, to end up with the works of Shahzia Sikander a Pakistan artist living in New York.
One of the most striking work, a sort of turning-point of the relation with the cosmos, is the “Roden Crater” by James Turrell. A very big photo that has been emulsified on a parchment of an old volcano situated in Arizona. It’s extinct from half a million years. In 1974 it was transformed into a permanent observatory from which is possible to explore the universe and to study the perception of light.
